PKU-BHPB Chair enjoys a warm reception at North China Electricity and Power University

PKU-BHP Billiton Chair Professor of Australian Studies David Walker and Associate Professor Karen Walker visited North China Electricity and Power University (NCEPU) in Baoding 13-15 December 2015 and were hosted by Professor Guo Lei of NCEPU’s English Department, and his students. Professor Walker and Associate Professor Karen Walker gave two jointly delivered public lectures to over 150 staff and students: ‘Six Things You Need to Know about Australia’ and ‘Art, Landscape and Belonging in Australia’. Their host Professor Guo in introducing both guests suggested that there was a strong case to be made for their English Department to recognise the growing importance of Australia to China and vice versa and the place of Australian literature and language as a distinctive branch of English. During the visit Professor Walker also discussed the network of Australian Studies Centres in China, the role of the BHPB Chair and FASIC in fostering teaching and research in Australian Studies across a range of disciplines and donated books to the university.
