From 17-19 February 2017 the Australia China Youth Association, in collaboration with Model Asia Pacific Model United Nations delivered the Australia China Emerging Leaders Summit. The Summit brought together over 50 international young leaders to engage on topics from innovation to diplomatic policy to social issues between Australia and China.
On February 18, delegates attended a function held with the support of the Australian Embassy Beijing, which brought together established leaders of the political, business and academic communities in Beijing including Australia’s Deputy Head of Mission to China, Mr Gerald Thomson, and former Chinese Ambassador Mr Jiang Chengzhong.
Professor Gregory McCarthy was a senior guest at the function, where he was welcomed both as a senior custodian of Australia and China’s academic relationship, and also as a long-term supporter of ACYA though the ongoing ACYA-PKUASC internship program. The program invites young Australian scholars to conduct research under Professor McCarthy and contribute to the growing field of academia between the two countries. A number of delegates to the Summit will be conducting internships this semester including Jacinta Keast and Dominic Kocx.
